Fall Fishing is Here!

Fall fishing is here which can change the feeding habits of fish, as well as the full moon.

As water temperatures drop, smaller fish such as perch, minnows, finger mullet as well as hard-headed catfish leave the area in search of deeper water to survive the cold temperatures.

Their scales aren't big enough to protect them from cold conditions.

The Land Cut will be hot and heavy as bait leaves the area, the fish follow.

Redfish, Drum, Trout and Flounder will be the target for most fishermen this fall.

Strange Tides

Fishing has been somewhat slow over the past days, except for some large redfish.

Tides are the main cause of this.

The cooler weather will bring bigger trout soon!

As always Live Shrimp is available at Bluff's Landing

Oversized Reds All Over!

Walter Biel Caugh this 42" Monster at Emmords Hole - fishing with Capt, Chris Thompson.

Oversized Redfish are being caught in the Upper Laguna Madre.

The best results are being found in 5-6 feet of water, slow drifting toward the shore!

Speckled trout are plentiful in the 16-20 inch range.

Piggy Perch and Croaker are now coming to an end so Live Shrimp will be the bait of choice going forward.

Fall is one of the best times of the year to fish - as the temperatures fall the fish start to get frisky!

Butterfly Drum and Flounder will be here soon - Call Bluff's Landing now to reserve a Fall Flounder Fishing Trip! 512-361-7100

Cooler days = Abundant Redfish

Well the cooler days of fall are coming upon us. As conditions change so do the habits of our fishing industry. Redfish are in abundant supply as they head for the spawning areas.
The jetties with all the rocky areas are the prime target. They migrate every year. Speckle trout are in the Laguna Madre year round. Pig Perch seem to be the bait of choice.
Flounder will be the next target as they head to deep water to spawn. Finger mullet, shrimp, mud minnows, and small jigs will be the choice for flounder.
On a scale of 1-10, fishing is at an 8 count.

HUGE REDFISH!!!

Trout Fishing is starting to slow down for the season, while the Redfish are on the move.

Redfish up to 50" are being caught in the upper Laguna Madre.

The first cold front arrived in Texas and the Coastal Bend proceeded to dump a bunch of rain throughout the state. These fronts are right on time and they cause the fish to get really excited when the temperatures change.

Flounder fishing will improve as the temeratures drop.

Call Bluff's Landing at 361-937-7100 and ask for Roger to find out about Flounder fishing trips.

Erin and The Trout Down South!

How's this for a couple of BLM Employees fishing with Capt Warren Hart!

Well, just when we thought the rain was gone for a while.. Somebody invited Tropical Storm Erin to the party. After battening down the hatches at Bluff's Landing on Wednesday - Erin got the wrong directions and proceeded to dump copius amounts of rain on Houston and San Antonio but not much at Bluff's Landing.

This week, several trout and a few reds in the upper Laguna Madre around the Boat Hole to Emmords Hole on piggy's & croakers.

Bigger fish being caught far south in Baffin bay & the land cut. With the rain this week it has been off and on.

Today (Friday) we have seen a dozen or so medium size trout. If the weather holds for the weekend the fishing should be fair. The croaker are really getting big a hard to keep alive, so most anglers are using piggy perch.

Call to reserve your bait for this weekend.

What a Scorcher!!!

Everyone grab your hats and sunscreen!

Today was a scorcher with the wind East/SE at10-11 mph and with a heat index of 101.

Everyone came back from their trips with a great sigh of relief after entering the cool air conditioned Bait and Tackle Shop at Bluff's Landing and headed straight to the cooler for an ice-cold beverage.
Fishing has been excellent for trout and redfish this week at Port Mansfield, the Land Cut, and Baffin Bay, using croaker and piggies.

The fish seem to be moving slowly north and the guides don’t have to travel as far south for fish.

They are also finding trout and reds in the Upper Laguna Madre and catching Kingfish, Ling, Dolphin, and Snapper in the Gulf.

The customers are all coming back from their trips with big smiles on their faces as they go to the cleaning table to have their fish cleaned, bagged and ready to take home.

Fishing Report Monday 4/30/2007

Trout fishing has really improved in the lower Laguna Madre. Between Pure Oil Channel and Pensecal in Baffin there have been plenty of keeper trout along with large numbers of small trout. Redfish are along shorelines in the lagoon. They are full of baby crabs. Gold spoons work great! Croaker are starting to show up, unfortunately we are only allowed to catch and sell so many. Bluff’s landing will have at least 2 possibly 3 croaker boats out so we are hoping to have plenty of bait. If you’re looking for croaker feel free to give us a call ahead of time.

Fishing Report Friday 4/20/2007

Fishing has really improved this past week. Bull and keeper drum are being caught in the Land Cut. Trout and redfish are also being caught in the Cut. Trophy trout are still being caught in the Baffin Bay area on soft plastic lures. Tide runner trout are thick in the Laguna Madre. Trout, reds, drum, sheephead, and a few flounder are being brought in from the upper Laguna Madre from Bird Island North.
We also have plenty of live bait including shrimp, mud minnows, perch, and small croaker.

Fishing Report Sunday 4/15/2007

Fishing picked up when the sun was visible. Reds seem to be plentiful down South. There are small trout everywhere. There are some big ones are out there as well. I saw a 30”, 31”, and a 29” trout this past week from King Ranch, one of which is pictured above.

Fishing Report Friday 4/6/2007

Keeper trout are coming in with live shrimp. Wade fishing with top water and soft plastic lures are producing large trout as well. The channels are full of redfish and drum. Give the spoils from Bird Island to the mouth of Baffin Bay a try. In Baffin Bay, fishing for trout and scattered redfish has been good near deeper rocks.

Fishing Report 4/4/2007

The Land Cut is producing plenty of Reds, Trout, and Drum. Baffin Bay waters are very muddy at this time and are producing very few trout over 7 pounds. Try the King Ranch Shoreline for keeper Trout, Reds, and some Flounder. The upper Laguna is holding Reds, Trout, and Drum in the Channels. For a little bit of everything go out to the Packery Channel where you can catch Reds, Blue Fish, Jackfish, Trout, and Drum.

Fishing Report 3/2/2007

Temperatures have been improving in the last couple of weeks. With these improved temperatures comes improved fishing. The shallow waters are warming up fast. Due to warmer waters large trout have come out of hiding to hunt down mullet, perch, and other small fish in shallow areas. When is the best time to fish? Well the best times will be during major and minor lunar feeding; these times are in direct relation to the position of the moon. Check fishing magazines, newspapers, internet, and the news for peak fishing times. Remember that when fishing in cooler waters to present your bait slowly into large sand pockets and along the edges of channels. Try fishing with slow sinking “Corkys” this time of year.

Fishing Report Friday 2/23/2007

With water temperatures on the rise the fishing will just keep getting better and better. Fishing has been good for speckled trout and redfish. Sand pockets seem to be the spot to target. Look for bait and bird action this time of year. Soft plastic is still the bait of choice. Water temperature is around 50 degrees and on the rise. Perch and hardheads are in the Laguna so get ready for a terrific summer full of great fishing!

Fishing Report for Monday 2/12/2007

With the Baffin Bash around the corner there have been a lot of anglers pre-fishing for the tournament. Trout fishing is always good during the months of February and March. Artificial baits are best because the fish are most likely to be on the bottom. Wade fishing will produce more action than most boat fishing. Reports of 8 to 10 pound trout are being reported up and down the Coast. Sting Rays are not much of a problem at this time due to the fact that they don’t have scales to keep them warm, but slide those feet anyway.

Fishing Report for Monday 2/5/2007

Fishing has picked up over the weekend. Both keeper Trout and Redfish are being brought in from Baffin Bay and East Kleberg. Right now you’ll want to stick with artificial lures. Try using a Plum or Pumpkin Chartreuse lure. Berkley Gulp lures are also a good way to go. With sunshine warming up the water, look for Redfish in the flats along with Trout. Large Drum are still being caught in the channels. We’ve had a lot of people out this week scouting the water to get ready for the Baffin Bay Bash Tournament. The tournament will be held here at Bluff’s Landing Marina & Lodge Saturday February 24th & Sunday February 25th.

Fishing Report 1/29/2007

Once again cooler temperatures will remain a factor in this week’s coastal fishing. The weekend was slow here at Bluff’s landing with a few Redfish and keeper Trout being brought in from the Northern Laguna Madre. I would still recommend that you concentrate on deeper pockets of water. The water temperature has dropped to the upper 40’s so you can bet the fish are staying in the deeper waters to stay warm. So keep to fishing deeper pockets of water and artificial baits.

Don’t forget we have the Baffin Bash Tournament coming up February 24th and 25th here at Bluff’s Landing Marina & Lodge. There will be a live Trout weigh in with plenty of prizes! Well that’s it for now, check back Friday February 2nd for the next report.

Fishing Report Friday 1/26/2007

Here is your fishing report for the next few days. Fishing has been slow due to the winter weather we’ve been having. Water temperatures have dropped bellow 50 degrees in the past two weeks. Fishing patters drop off during these colder days. The fish move off into deeper water to stay warm. Artificial baits, Gulp, Assassins, and Corkeys are good lures to use at this time. Your bites will be slow because the fish are in a dormant state from the cold temperatures. A normal bite will feel like nothing more than a peck or even just tension on the line. Retrieve your tackle at a slow pace. When you get a hit it will be a good one! On sunny days Redfish tend to explore and root up crabs and shrimp, so if the sun is out you can bet the Reds are too. Good Luck out there!

Fishing Report 1/19/2007

Who would have thought that Corpus Christi would have this kind of weather? Usually our weather patterns are mild with the occasional cold front now and then. Unfortunately the water temperature also drops which causes the fish to head for deeper waters to survive. This doesn’t seem to bother the Red’s or Drum due to their large scale pattern which keeps them warm. If you’re going out concentrate on the deeper waters as fish like to take advantage of the soft mud on the bottom of the channels. Work your lures very slow along the bottom. The bite will be light due to the fact that these fish are dormant due to the cold temperatures.

Fishing Report 1/8/2007

This weekend’s fishing was good in deeper pockets of the Laguna Madre. Emmord’s Hole was holding keeper Trout, Reds, and Drum. The Humble Channel is deep; some areas are up to 20’ and over by the Causeway Bridge. The Boat Hole was holding Reds on the drop-off’s and edges of the channels. Packery Channel has been producing some large Drum and Redfish. We have some warmer weather coming up this week which should make the fish more active. Good Luck, and don’t forget to check back here Friday for another update.

Friday 1/5/2007 Fishing Report

Friday January 5th 2007

Fishing is slower during the winter months due to water temperature changes. Fishing in the Land-Cut has been slow, with the exception of a few Drum and Reds. Baffin Bay has produced a few Trout in the 29’’ to 30’’ range. B & L Corky’s seems to be the bait of choice for these large Trout. The Intracoastal Waterway has produced Trout and Redfish during these latest cold spells. Padre Isle’s channels have produced both Trout and Reds. This area is protected and has deep pockets for the bait fish to survive in. Please check back here on Mondays and Fridays for an updated report.
