BAFFIN BAY: Trout are good on topwaters and plum plastics around rocks and grass. Redfish are fair to good in knee–deep water on small Super Spooks, She Pups and SkitterWalks. Trout are fair to good on plastics under rattling corks at Rocky Slough.

CORPUS CHRISTI: Redfish are good on the beachfront on mullet and shrimp. Trout are fair for waders working mud and grass on small topwaters and Corkies. Black drum are good on the reefs on shrimp.

17 lbs of reds...all tournament anglers goal.

The past few weeks in Baffin and Upper Laguna have been all about catching...We ended up with full limits of trout on every trip and caught and released several more trophy trout, but none bigger than Cliff Swift's 9 3/4 pounder he caught with me back in April. This year I gave a free Waterloo Rod to the person who caught the heaviest speckled trout with me during my Baffin season. Congrats to Cliff for a fish of lifetime, that he caught on a top water that was 30 3/4" long and weighed 9 lbs 11 oz. Once again, I want to send out a "Big Thank You" to Annette and Roger at Bluff's Landing Lodge and Marina for their hospitality for my guest and myself. I will kick off my Port O'Connor season this week and remain there through the end of the year. Hope all is well and here's some pics from the past few weeks in Baffin . Thanks to all for your continued business.

Lots of fish coming from the Land-cut. Baffin Bay is still holding big Trout for the wade fishermen. Emmonds Hole and Nighthawk have some nice Reds. Pure Oil to the Corpus Bay front holding lots of Trout, Reds, and Drum. Everyone seems to be using Corky Lures with great results. We now have live Croaker in good supply. Croaker are an awesome live bait so if you want to make sure to get some call ahead and we'll have some waiting for you when you get here. You must pick up your reserved bait by 7:00 a.m. As always be cautious on the water with respect to yourself and others. Keep sharp out there.

Cliff with his personal best and leader of 2010...30 3/4" 9 3/4 Lbs

The fishing in Baffin this year continues to be great. We have landed many trophy trout since my last update and have obtained full limits on many occasions. Hottest lures have been Gambler Flappin Shads and Mirro-Lure He-Dogs and She-Dogs in the Green Back/Silver Belly/Orange Throat color pattern. Back on April 21st, a big congrats goes out to my client Cliff Swift when he became the new leader with his 30 3/4" 9lb 12 oz Trophy Trout for the free Waterloo rod. The fish was caught on a top water lure that afternoon. Looking forward, we will continue to run deep into Baffin in search of some more trophy trout. Most fish have been coming off the rocks in Baffin Bay over the past couple weeks, but the bigger trout have continued to be in shallower than waist deep water. This past week we landed 4 trout over 28 inches, so hold your breath a little longer Cliff, because I got some guys chasing your leading trout.

Well winter in finally over and Sumer has arrived! Mother Nature decides to interrupt our aquatic eco system every four years or so. A biologist friend told me back in 1968 that Mother Nature takes care of the fishing industry. Every three to four years we experience a “healthy winter” here on the coast, and this year we did just that. This year fishing will be at its best.
The land cut is still producing nice trout from the Gulf of Mexico. Redfish are being caught in the nine mile hole area. Baffin Bay is producing large trout up to 8 lbs. Upper Laguna Madre has everything including Trout, Flounder, Reds, and Drum. Live shrimp has been the bait of choice, and we’ve got plenty. We will be getting croaker in around June 10th. That’s all for now and remember to be cautious and stay safe out on the water.

Wow! What a beautiful weekend we had at Bluff's Landing Marina! Lots of sun, lots of fish and lots of people. Fishing is really hot! This year is really off to a spectacular start. Those tide runner trout I have been talking about have finally shown up. The land cut is hot for reds, trout & drum. Limits are coming from this area. I saw two pictures of trout caught and released over 10 lbs. Mother Nature is taking care of us! Lots of fish in Baffin Bay. Emmonds Hole holding numbers of keeper trout. Red fish being caught in the shallow flats. Pure oil catches of keeper trout & reds. Boathole to bayfront producing nice red fish. Hey, don't forget Bluff's Landing Marina can also book your Offshore Fishing Trips as well. Croaker are just around the corner. We've plenty of corky lures. They have arrived! We're talking about the Gulf Trout returning to the Laguna Madre to spawn. All these fish will be fat and the inside of the mouths will be bright yellow. A 15'' Trout from the Gulf can weigh 2 lbs. Live shrimp works the best on these fish. Live shrimp are plentiful right now and croaker are just around the corner. Red's and Drum are still being caught from the boat hole to the land-cut. 27'' to 32'' Trout are being caught in Baffin area. The best way to target these fish is to get out of the boat and wade fish with plastic lures. Plenty of Corky's available. Guides are booking up fast for the summer. Well fishing has been hot and heavy on the Laguna Madre. Land Cut is still producing limits of Reds, Trout, Drum, and a few Flounder. Baffin Bay has reports of 10 lb Trout! We have seen some nice pictures of these big girls being caught and released. The shrimp are still running in the Laguna Madre, so we have lots of live shrimp. Bull Drum are being caught along the inter-coastal waterway. Both Red's and Trout are coming in from the King Ranch shoreline. Packery area holding some nice trout as well. These yellow mouth Trout called tide runners will be showing up soon. That's all for now check back soon for more updates.

The Land Cut fishing is hot and heavy! Limits of Drum, Redfish, and Trout coming in with every boat fishimng the area. Baffin Bay is still producing nice trout in the 6 to 8 LB range. Limits of Trout coming in from Emords Hole all the way to the bay front. Look for fishing to get a lot better with tide runner Trout coming from the Gulf to spawn. Every year these fish return to the Laguna Madre to lay their eggs. Check our website for up coming events.

Finally the water temperature in the Laguna Madre has reached high enough marks to put the shrimp on the move.

"YES, LIVE SHRIMP ARE HERE!"

Fishing has been very good with this happening. The Land-cut is producing limits of drum from 14 to 48 inches, and 5 to 45 pounds. Tide runner trout will also start showing up. Baffin Bay is producing specs in the 5 to 8 pound range. Redfish are also being caught in the Bafin. On the upper laguna side, trout, red's and keeper drum are being caught from Emmonds Hole all the way to the bayfront. Mother nature plays a big part in the fishing industry. Our tides have been pretty low. This is a good time to go for a cruise on your boat and check out the area. Find the deep water points and also the shallow water spots. After a few days off for spring break fishing and turkey hunting with my wife and my 2 boys I will be back in the water chasing trophy trout again in the morning...

The fishing in Baffin has been getting better and better and I am excited to get back in the saddle...The trout in the Upper Laguna and Baffin Bay have started to spawn, so we are finding most of the bigger trout in less than 2 feet of water and have also had a little bit of top water action as well. We have caught many trout in the 4 - 7 pound range with a few 7 - 8 1/2 pounders.

Best lure for the past 2 weeks has been the Gambler in the "Copperfield" color but you have to paint the tail chartreuse if the water is a lil murky and Bass Assassin in the "Chicken on a Chain" color. Best top water lure has been the Mirrolure She-Dog with chrome belly and green back.

I still have a few dates left open for a trophy trout trip to Baffin Bay and the Upper Laguna Madre...grab your rods and lets go!!!

Bluffs Landing Marina hosted the Port O'Connor Bash this past weekend. The turn out was light but these guys really know what they are doing! There were alot of big fish brought in.

We had alot of other anglers on the water just out to enjoy the beautiful weekend. The land cut is producing alot of drum and redfish were caught in the nine mile hole. Baffin Bay was producing trout all the way north to pure oil channel. There are large drum in the 40 to 50 pound range being found in the intracoastal. Also, the snapper fishing off shore is really good right now.

Trout action has been heating up in Baffin Bay...the fishing has improved over the past 2 weeks and hopefully will continue to get better. Finding grass beds that are holding bait has been the key to success. We have been catching most trout on Bass Assassin Sea Shads in electric chicken and red shad colors and Gambler Lures in copperfield and plum/white colors. So far we have landed 7 trout over 28 inches and the longest has been 30 inches during the first month of the 2010 Baffin Season.

I do have a new leader for the largest trout of the year...Angler Mike Bicker just didn't catch one trophy with me, he landed 2 beautiful trophy trout on 2 consecutive days and the heaviest tipped the scales at 9 lbs...one measured 29 inches and the other 30 inches. Please remember that the largest trout landed this year on a trip with me while I am down here in Baffin wins a custom Waterloo Rod of the anglers choice. Congrats again Mike!

After the first 2 weeks of the 2010 Baffin Season, Dr. Mark Stevens of Victoria is a top my leader board with his personal best 29" trout he caught with me on a Keylime Pie Gambler bait...the fishing in Baffin has remained slower than normal, but we are getting a few big bites...so far we have landed 3 trout over 28 inches and I am looking for the next one to come along soon...but the past 2 weeks have been about grinding all day in some very cold and windy conditions.
Tournament News: My partner Rocky Whitley and I fished the Annual Baffin Bash Trout Tournament 2 weeks ago and ended up taking 6th place after 2 very tough days of fishing. Next tournament is the Bluff Landing Trout Rodeo at the end of this month.
Hottest Baits: Gambler Lures in the colors of Keylime Pie, Plum/White and Copperfield.

This Weekend 135 Teams will Battle it out at Bluff's Landing to win a New Majek Boat

A full field of 270 anglers will roll into Corpus Christi this weekend for the fourth stop of the Cabela's Texas Redfish Series powered by Majek/Evinrude. Teams will take off Saturday morning at safe daylight to try to catch the two heaviest redfish of the day and win a brand-new Majek boat. Come see the weigh-in Saturday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Bluf's Landing Marina and Lodge.

Laguna Madre/Baffin Bay — Trout are scattered or in low concentrations from Pure Oil Channel southward. Most fish are being caught with croaker from Baffin Bay to the Landcut. Water clarity is good in Baffin, Rocky Slough, the Meadows and Yarborough. Plum Bass Assassins worked near the mouth of Baffin, along with croaker and live shrimp. In the back bay, anglers continue to catch trout on paddletail soft plastics and purple Devil Eyes this week in the back of Baffin Bay, around protected shorelines with rocks. The south end of the Landcut remains hot for trout and reds on croaker, with a few flounder. Drum are there too. Nine Mile Hole and Yarborough also has some reds.. The King Ranch shoreline continues to produce scattered trout.

Tide runner trout have been coming in from the Gulf of Mexico. These fish return to the Laguna Madre to lay thousands of eggs in the warm undisturbed waters, they are fat and full of eggs. You can find tide runner trout moving in the Land-Cut or Baffin Bay area. Fishing has improved in the Upper Laguna for both redfish and trout. The Packery Channel is also producing tide runners. Live shrimp should be plentiful thru May. We will be getting croaker and piggy perch soon to offset the shrimp.
We’ve been receiving a lot of registration entry forms for the South Texas Redfish Shoot-out. The tournament is June 12th -14th. First place payout is $15,000, second is $10,000 and third is $5,000! So far this year, the fishing in Baffin Bay has been fair to tough. We've not been catching a lot of fish. But the big fish is what has kept us going strong! There have been many days where you work all day long for 15-20 fish, but we've had several 7-10 pounders. The whole purpose of fishing here in Baffin is for the chance to catch a fish of a lifetime, therefore we have had success on many trips, but the numbers of fish caught has been lower than ever. Speaking with many locals, other guides and a biologist, we can only come up with the fact that this dry spell has hurt the fishing in Baffin Bay this year. The best lures lately have been Gambler Baits all the way...hottest colors have been KeyLime Pie, White, Plum/White tail and Texas Tea. We've tried top waters on many occasions and have not had much success yet, but it should turn on very soon.

This just in, Jabba the Hutt has finally been “caught”. Yes ladies and gentlemen the evil crime lord of Tatooine, Jabba the Hutt is now in the custody of the galactic police. We here at Bluffs Landing Marina obtained this photo moments after Jabba was brought to justice.

Okay back to more important news! The Land Cut is producing Redfish and Drum. Baffin Bay remains murky and choppy due to the wind brought in by the recent cold front. The upper Laguna should clear up first. Trout and Reds along with Puppy Drum are being caught in the flats. Try the inter coastal area for large Drum and Redfish. "Fish In" Report 2/25/2009

"Hey those are my dentures!"

With less wind over the weekend fishing has returned to normal for this time of year. The Land-Cut and Nine Mile Hole areas are producing Redfish and Large Drum up to 30 lbs. Speckled Trout are here in large numbers. We’ve seen lots of 14 to 15 inch Trout being caught in the upper Laguna Madre around Pita Island and Pure Oil area. Birds are working the intracoastal canal, feeding on the pink shrimp migrating from the flats to the bay systems. Pink shrimp are also known as “hoppers” because they are so hard to hold onto. We got an early crop this year; they usually don’t show up until the middle of March. In other words we’ve got plenty of live shrimp on hand.

This year Bluff’s Landing Marina will be hosting Summer Fishing Tournaments for the whole family!

April 18, 2009 we will host the Texas Grand Slam. There will be prizes for first, second, and third places for Trout, Reds, Flounder, Drum, and Sheepshead. Entry fees will be $50 per person and $10 for kids under 12.

May 23, 2009 we will be hosting the “Full Stringer” tournament. This contest will be based on the heaviest stringer of 3 Redfish, 2 trout, 1 drum, and 1 flounder. Once again entry fees will be $50 for adults and $10 for kids under 12.

June 12, 13, and 14, 2009 Bluff’s will be hosting the first South Texas Redfish Shoot-out. This tournament will be based on your best two Redfish between 20’’ and 28’’ per day. Redfish must be alive to qualify. This will be a polygraph tournament. Entry fee is $500 per team. First place payout is $10,000 while second place will receive $5,000.

Fishing Report 2/20/2009

Our first tournament was held February 6-8, 2009. We had fifty teams competing for a chance to win $10,000! The weather was a big factor in this contest. A meeting was held on the 6th to clarify the rules followed by a BBQ dinner. A big thanks to Ronnie Waters and John Gordon for cooking. The food was great! Boats began leaving the marina at 6:45a.m. on Saturday in search of the big boys.
The weather was nasty with two to three foot waves. Around 2:00 p.m. the first fish arrived at the weigh station. Keep in mind these fish had to be alive to qualify for weigh in. By 4:00 p.m. all boats with fish were back at the dock. Thirteen boats weighed in fish for the first day. Lots of people showed up for the final weigh in. The largest trout for day one was 7.44 Lbs. The largest fish for day two was 8.75 Lbs.
The prize for the team voted most likely to succeed went to Kris Hawkins and Wayne Zercher. They didn’t weigh in any fish, but they were out there both days giving it all they had.

$10,000 Grand Prize Money went to Nieman and O'Riley Total Weight: 17.74 lbs.

$5,000 2nd Place Prize Money to Loomis and Akin Total Weight: 17.20 lbs.

$2,500 3rd Place Prize Money to Simmons and Lloyd Total Weight: 16.66 lbs.

We will begin construction on our tournament pavilion soon. With the pavilion/event center Bluff’s Landing will be your tournament headquarters. Lodging, food, a marina store, and an enclosed tournament pavilion will make Bluff’s Landing the best location to hold your tournament! We will be hosting another tournament this summer for all anglers. Trout, reds, flounder, and drum will all be a part of our next tournament. For everyone who participated in our first tournament, I say thank you from everyone at Bluff’s Landing Marina!

Bluff's Landing Fishing Report 1/26/2009

The Texas Trout Series held their first tournament of 2009 at Bluff’s Landing this past weekend. There were lots of fish brought in, in spite of a strong cold front that hampered fishing conditions. If you would like to catch some of the action at home tune in every Wednesday morning at 6:00 AM on Fox Sports Southwest!

The Baffin Bay Rodeo will be held February 6-8, 2009 here at Bluff’s Landing Marina. We’ve had a lot of teams sign up already so if you want to fish get those registration forms in today! Click here to register. Make sure to call ahead to book your guide and accommodations.

If you’re going out fishing keep in mind that redfish and drum are pretty active this time of year. Live shrimp should be showing up here around the end of February. As of now Berkley Gulps are doing a great job as an alternative to live bait. Good luck out there!

We’ve had a busy weekend with lots of people out on the water. We are getting reports of nice trout coming from the rocks in Baffin, including a few in the 7-10 pound range. There’s plenty of redfish and drum being caught as well, with artificial remaining the bait of choice. We’ve seen lots of fish being caught on the King Ranch shoreline on both sides of Pure Oil Channel. There should be some really nice trout coming in this weekend as the Texas Saltwater Series kicks off the 2009 season with their first stop at Bluff’s Landing Marina. Bluff's Landing Marina Fihing Report 1/12/09

Fishing has remained slow in the Laguna Madre due to low water temperatures. Fish tend to become dormant this time of year. Water temperatures remain in the low 60’s. The fish won’t attack the bait if it “swims” by. They will however grab it if you work it close enough to them. As long as they don’t have to work for it they’ll bit it. It will feel like a peck from a perch, so reel your line in real slow until you feel the tension on your rod. Set the hook with a medium pull. Live bait will be scarce until March of 09 due to the cold weather.

Happy 2009 from Bluff’s Landing Marina & Lodge! Hopefully you all had a wonderful and safe holiday season! We saw lots of people come out to fish this past weekend. Trout, drum, and redfish have been feeding on Berkley Gulp’s due to the lack of live shrimp. Shrimp tend to bury themselves in the sand when the water temperatures drop bellow 60° F. With these conditions artificial baits become their primary target. Remember that when fishing with lures you have to retrieve them slowly. These fish are in cold water and like humans we move much slower when it is cold. Remember we’ve got the Baffin Rodeo Tournament ($10,000 1st place) coming up in February so get those entry forms in now!

The upper Laguna Madre has been producing some small Trout on live Shrimp bait. Red fish are schooled up in the shallow flats and Flounder are showing up for there annual run to spawn. We have been finding large schools of Black Drum fish in the waters as well.

If you are looking for the right bait for your weekend trip to Bluffs Landing we would have to recommend the Peeled shrimp.

There are a lot of redfish, trout, flounder, and drum being brought in from the Baffin Bay/Land-cut area. Live shrimp are pretty much done with this season so Berkley Gulp artificial lures have become the bait of choice. Whether you are fishing with live shrimp or artificial you still want to work them under a popping cork. Flounder are starting to show up, but the run hasn’t started yet. Right now live finger mullet are great live bait for all species of being caught. As the weather continues to cool and the water temperatures drop the flounder with begin to migrate to the deeper channels to lay their eggs. We have lots of dead bait available right now so come get it while it’s dead!

Fishing @ Bluffs Landing for Fall 2008

With Fall conditions upon us, fish will be dropping off into deeper pockets of water. Bait fish will be leaving the Laguna Madre as the water gets cooler from the cold fronts that are moving in. Live shrimp and perch are leaving the area also due to the temperature changes.

Artificial lures, Cut Mullet and dead shrimp are the bait of choice for the fall months.

Baffin Bay is still producing Red's and keeper Trout. Upper Laguna and some areas around Corpus Bay are producing Trout, Flounder, Red's and also some nice Sand Trout.

We are looking at our calendars and getting dates set for the larger tournaments. Trout Series, Baffin Bash and the first annual Roger Viar/Bluffs Landing Trout Tournament. As soon as these dates have been confirmed I will post them for everyone.

Our locks have been changed!

If you have stayed with us before you might have had the problem of getting locked out of your hotel room due to the weather effecting the card key. We replaced the card keys with regular keys now. You no longer have to worry about the locks getting weathered and not working. This is a very good thing for everyone!

Bluffs Landing Fishing Report October 2008

As Summer comes to an end, the fall fishing begins. Weather patterns change everything as far as the fishing is concerned. Crocker and Pig Perch season comes to an end, feeding patterns change for all species of fish. As water temperatures drop all fish will be movinmg to deaper, warmer water to servive the dropping temperatures. Live shrimp comes to a hault.This is where knowledge comes in.

All species of live bate will exit the Laguna Madre for deeper channels. Hard heads, Perch and Finger Mullet don't have enough scales to protuct them from the tempeture dropping. this is good forfall fishing. Only the larger fish can servive the cold tempeatures, but they also move to deeper pockets of water. When temperatures drop in the fiftys these fish will lay on the bottom of the deep holes in a Dorment stage. Fishing Lures play a BIG part of fall fishing. these artificial baits muct be worked very slow to encourage the cold fish to react. Your baite willfeel lik ea Perch bite but the fish may be a large one.

Fishing in Baffin Bay and Land cut are is still pretty good. Trout, Flounder and Reds are being brought in by anglers.

Yarbrough pass is producing Trout and Reds. Emmords hole is holding alot of small Trout in sand pockets. Boat hole has numerous Red fish and Trout also lots of Flounder have showing up in the upper Laguna Madre.

But don't worry guys and gals we are doing our best at getting rid of the compitition. Hehehehehe.....

Biologists are reporting good numbers of fish, But there is still a population shortage.

Ducks are showing up in good numbers for Duck season. Our guides are ready for hunting season! call ahead for Duck hunting reservations.

For all you Dove hunters out there here is a GREAT recipie for cooking those Dove.

Mesquite Grilled Dove Wraps

24 Dove breasts
24 Jalapenos (halved and seeded to make 48 halves)
2 purple onions peeled and cut into 1 inch thick wedges
2 cakes of cream cheese (allow to sit out to soften for 1-2 hours

For the Brine

Fillet the breast meat from the breastplate. Place the fillet halves into a large bowl of ice water. They should be fully submerged. Add ½ cup salt to ½ gallon of ice water. Allow meat to sit for 1-2 hours. Pour off water and rinse the meat again with cold water.

Preparation

In a mixing bowl, add to the cream cheese 1 tablespoon each od black pepper, garlic salt, and basil leaves.

Stuff a Jalapeno half with ¾ tsp cream cheese mixture. Place the breast on top of the cream cheese and place the purple onion on top of the breast. Wrap the pepper and breast with a half slice of bacon. Hold the bacon in place with a moist round toothpick. (Be sure to wrap tightly to hold in cheese.)

For the Baste

The baste will help to cook the bacon faster and keep the meat from over cooking and drying out.

1 Whole bottle of Syrah or Merlot wine
¾ jar of Jalapeno Kiwi Jelly
3 Tbs soy sauce
3 Tbs olive oil
1 Tbs Dijon mustard
3 tsp beef bullion
1 Tbs butter
1 Tbs black pepper
2 Tbs rosemary leaves, chopped coarsely
2 cloves of fresh minced garlic

Place all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat and reduce by ½ of volume.
Remove from heat.
Grilling

Because they are small, delicate, and prone to flare ups on the fire, place the dove wraps indirectly over medium heat on the grill and keep it covered when not basting. Turn the wraps every 4-5 minutes and baste every time you turn until bacon is browned. Remove from grill to a platter and cover loosely with a piece of foil for approx. 7-8 minutes to rest the meat. Then remove the toothpicks and enjoy.

This years AWWC South Texas dove hunt is set for opening weekend September 20th. We will arrive Friday afternoon the 19th, and depart Sunday after lunch the 21st.

We are staying at Bluffs Landing Marina.

The early scouting reports are fantastic.

Some details are being finalized but the cost will be about $350.00 per person and this will include two days of hunting, two breakfasts, two lunches {sandwiches},two dinners, and a t-shirt.

We have rooms available at the Bluffs Landing Holtel. The first 10 people to reserve their spot will be in the lodge; the next 40 or so will be in the hotel.

All it takes is $100.00 to reserve your spot.

A few more details: Bluffs Landing is located on the south side of Corpus. We have 6,000 acres to choose from and I’m

Fishing Report 9/1-7/2008

Its that time of year again, Hurricane season.

Unfortunately the Hurricanes bring wind shifts, rain showers and all kinds of different circumstances for fisherman to deal with, but if you can tough it out the fishing is well worth it. The fish still have to eat right?

Baffin Bay is producing lots of Redfish and Trout when using Piggie Perch for bait. If you go further north, Trout are being caught all the way to the Corpus Bay Front.

Bull Red's will migrate to the jetties to spawn. Some of these fish are in the four foot range.

We have plenty of Piggie Perch for everyone so call to make your bait, guide and hotel reservations today.

There has been a lot of movement in the waters off Baffin Bay. We have been seeing alot of Trout that are 30" around the rocks. Piggie Perch are still the choice bait.

Trout, Red fish and Flounder are showing up in and around the upper Laguna.

Red Fish are moving north for the Spawning period. Red fish spawn or lay eggs around the jetty areas where there are lots of rocks for there fingerling to be hidden and survive to grow up big and strong for us.

Great catches and congratulations to Michael, EJ & Austin Archuleta! They came down to the Marina and had a blast! EJ and Austin are the son's of Karin Brauner in our corporate office. They caught 19 Trout and 2 Flounder and went home with some great fishing stories.

We wanted to say thanks to "The Outdoor Texas Camp" for coming to see us at the Marina. This is a youth camp that focuses on saltwater activities. These boys went kayaking, tied fishing flies & went on a guided fishing trip among other things. During the week they stayed with us, they brought in lots of fish and monster reds!! They all seemed to have a great time and we really enjoyed having them out and hope to see them again next year! Every one has been telling us all about the Trout and over sized large Reds they have been catching around the Baffin area.

Alot of people are also fishing in the shallow grass lines and are using piggies.

Our next big event is the Babes on Baffin all women's fishing tournament.

Looks like there is a chance of rain today but Saturday and Sunday are looking sunny and in the 90's "Great fishing weather!"

For anyone that will be in Austin or can make it to Austin this Tuesday August, 5th stop on by for our Bluffs Landing open house. We will be serving great food and drinks. This event will be held at 600 Congress on the 21st floor between 6-8pm. This is a great chance for us in the corporate office to get know to meet our fellow fishermen. Ok, I am going to start this week off with a bit of movie Trivia.

In the movie "Castaway" star Tom Hanks removes his own tooth with:

So.... Fishing has really picked up on The Laguna Madre. BIG catches of Trout and some real nice Redfish. The Red's are ranging in size from 20" to 44". Large Trout are being caught down around Baffin Bay.

Wade fishing seems to produce better numbers of Flounder than the boats this last week or so but the boats are still producing great numbers as well.

For bait right now Croaker are very slow for some reason and live shrimp are few and far between. Mostly on the weekends Piggy Perch seems to be in good numbers. Piggy Perch grunt just like Croaker. This makes them a great target for all species.

It was a wet one but a great one!

If anyone skipped out this past weekend you sure did miss alot. We had rain but "man-o-man" did we have some good hauls of fish! The 4th was a blast, our guides went out Saturday and Sunday and they didn't even have to go too far away from the Marina to catch the big ones.

Here is our very own Kathy Akin with a whopping 27 inch 7 pound Speckled Trout.

Her family was taken out by Captain Steve Jorden, her son inlaw also caught a Trout that was 27 1/2 inches and 8 pounds!!!!

Janis Lindeman was celebrating her July 4th Birthday with husband Harvie and good friends, Captain Randy Pryor and his wife Jackie. Her Birthday present to her self was catching this 27 inch trout!

Here is another set of handsome gentlemen with there fantastic catches from this weekend. Great Job!!

I'm sure everyone is singing, "Rain rain go away, come again some other day". Well looks like you are in luck. Friday - Monday looks to be clear Skies in the mid 90's with a chance of clouds on Sunday but I think we are clear of rain for now.

Fishing Report June 30, 2008

Fishing still remains good with good catches of trout using croaker.

This is 7 yr old Mathew Seymore the Third. Captain Rick Loveday took out Mathew, Grandpa and dad out on June 9th. Mathew also caught 2 over sized reds, 2 legal reds and several of their 30 trout. Good job Seymore family!!!

It has been a slow year so far for croaker because Mother Nature steps in sometime to slow the process of evolution.

Redfish are moving north towards the jetties to spawn.

Live shrimp are available and Piggy perch will be here soon. These are as good as using live croaker, mullet or any other baitfish.

Before I go on about how wonderful the fishing is at Bluffs landing. I first have to congratulate Sir. Stinkerton. Stinky graduated top in his class this week, so as a graduation present to him we are taking him fishing at Bluffs landing. "He loves chasing the pelicans and eating at Laguna Beach Restaurant" So why not gather up all the graduates you know and come celebrate with us!

Upper Laguna Madre has been the hot spot this week. Live Croaker are still the bait of choice and we have plenty of them!

If your fishing for Trout you need to be around the Pure oil Channel and Emmords Hole.

If it's Redfish you are looking for head for the Night Hawk area.

Don't forget to call ahead for your bait reservations, we have lots of Live Shrimp and Crocker available.

And remember we offer fishing guide and lodging packages.

We are having the seventh annual Marco Pena Memorial Fishing Tournament to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation this weekend June 20-21 at Bluffs Landing Marina.

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. June 20 at Bluffs Landing with live music, barbecue, big-fish pot, T-shirts and silent auction.

Saturday fishing hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., with music, awards and shrimp boil to follow.

Entry fee is $40 for adults and $20 for children 12 and younger.

Fishing has really picked up around the grass lines in Emmords hole and back into Nighthawk. Redfish have been spotted around Spoil Island in the Boat hole as well.

With the SE winds pushing 15-20mph nearly everyday, the bait fish are being pushed up on the West shoreline. With this going on it makes a great area to get out of the boat and wade for bigger fish.

This past weekend we enjoyed hosting the McCoy's group, who took out 25 boats and brought back nearly 800 lbs. of Trout, Redfish and Flounder! It was a great weekend of fishing!

Another great weekend of fishing at Bluffs Landing! The Redfish and Trout are still coming in from the Land-cut, Yarbourgh Pass and the Baffin Bay area and let me tell you they are biting like crazy!

Croaker is the bait of choice right now. Night Hawk, Emmond's Hole and the Pure oil Channel are producing LIMITS of Trout along with Redfish. "Yummy!!!!"

As the winds lay look for Redfish around Spail Island.

The north wind held fishing to a challenge this weekend. Fish were still caught in the Land-Cut and Baffin Bay. Fishing remains slow in the upper lagoon. Trout and Reds were showing up in the Boat Hole close to the Bayfront. Croaker is off to a slow start and we are catching small baits, but the summer always starts off this way. June will produce 3 to 4 inch croaker, which are the perfect size for fishing! So come on down to the Bluffs Landing Marina and see what you can catch!

Bluff’s Landing Marina Fishing Report 5/12/2008

Bluff’s Landing Marina was host to the American Energy Fishing Tournament this past weekend. This was a pretty big tournament with 62 boats entered to fish this event. They held the Calcutta on Friday night and fished on Saturday. For those who don’t know a Calcutta is where you have to catch a redfish, trout, and flounder. If you don’t catch all three of these fish you are out the money. There were also prizes for individual in the redfish, trout, and flounder divisions. The Calcutta paid out $19,000 for 1st place, $11,000 for 2nd, and $9,000 to 3rd place.

Well summer is here and the fish are really biting! Catches of trout and flounder are coming in from the land-cut. Tide runners are really fat and full of roe. Redfish are being caught in Baffin all the way up the King Ranch shoreline. Nighthawk is holding keeper trout and redfish. Croaker season has started slow with water temperatures still holding in the 70 degree range. There is plenty of live shrimp available. Please call ahead for reservations at 361-937-7100.

Our Gulf Coast weekend was interrupted by some cooler temperatures and much needed rain. The rain is important to our Laguna Madre, it keeps the saltwater levels in check. High salinity levels are not good for the eco systems. Despite the wind and rain, good catches of Redfish, Trout, Black Drum, Sheephead and Flounder were brought in from the Landcut. Baffin Bay is still holding a good pattern for large trophy trout. If you don’t want to travel that far, you can fish Emmords Hole and north to Nighthawk for Redfish. You can find Redfish and Trout under the high-lines. The Packery Channel is holding trout from the Gulf trying to come in the bay system to spawn. Don’t forget, croaker bait will be available starting May 1, 2008.

Well, we had another great week of fishing down here at Bluff’s Landing Marina. Fishing in the Land Cut has improved as trout are coming in from the Gulf of Mexico to lay their eggs. These fish will weigh a pound or so more than they usually would. We’ve seen a lot of redfish coming out of the Nine Mile Hole because the water is falling out. Baffin Bay is still producing plenty of redfish and trout while the King Ranch shoreline has been holding nice sized redfish.

On the 18th of May we will be hosting a fundraiser for Cheryl Corson. Cheryl is the daughter of Lacy Smith, a longtime friend and resident of Flour Bluff. Cheryl has undergone two kidney transplants. All proceeds donated will go to Cheryl and her family for mounting medical bills.
We will have ten BBQ teams competing along with a fish fry and Cajun craw fish boil! It doesn’t get any better than that! There will be a little something for everyone so come on out to Bluffs Landing Marina and enjoy good food, cold drinks, and lots of good friends!

Fishing has gradually improved due to the decrease in wind. The wind speed has dropped from around 25 mph to around 10 to 15 mph. We’ve seen a lot of tide runner trout and redfish coming out of the Land-Cut. Tide runner trout are trout coming inland from the Gulf of Mexico to spawn. You can spot them by the bright yellow color in their mouths. Baffin Bay is still producing very nice trout, redfish, and black drum for the wade fishermen. Upper Lagoon, Pure Oil, Emmords Hole, and the Boat Hole are also full of fish! Live shrimp has been the bait of choice so far this season. Crocker season begins May 1, 2008. Make sure to call ahead to reserve your bait, lodge, or guide for the 2008 season!

What a beautiful weekend we had at Bluff’s Landing Marina and Lodge! Our weekend began Friday with the Texas Redfish Series arriving at the marina for their fourth redfish event in the Corpus Christi area. One hundred and twenty-five teams of redfish anglers competed for a $12,000.00 first place prize. Teams could weigh in two live redfish between 20 and 28 inches. The weigh-in began at 2:00 p.m. and the anglers had to be in sight of the marina by 4:00 p.m. sharp! One hundred and twenty-five redfish were weighed and put in holding tanks. They were later returned to the original waters they came from. The first day, the weigh-in was at Bluff's Landing and day two was held at the new “H.E.B. Plus” located in Flour Bluff. Out of the 125 teams that entered, only 50 teams were allowed to fish during day two. I took a lot of pictures of the event, so check out our web site at www.bluffslanding.com, to view them.

Aside from the redfish tournament we had a ton of anglers competing for “diner table catches.” I can’t tell you how many full boxes of trout and redfish were brought in. After witnessing the fish caught over the weekend there is no doubt that Baffin Bay is still holding plenty of nice trout and reds. On a side note the wade fishermen seem to be bringing in the best fish. Now if you’re looking for the perfect spot to bring in some keepers try Rocky Slough and Pensecol Point. These two areas are producing trout, reds, and a few flounder. King fish were also being caught in the surf about three miles out. The Boat Hole was holding a lot of keeper trout and oversized redfish. Other local action has also included redfish and trout on live shrimp as well as artificial bait. Speaking of bait, live croaker will be here May 1, 2008, so mark your calendars!
The summer is upon us here at Bluff’s Landing and we are having a great one so far! There were over 700 people here on Saturday and 500 plus people here on Sunday. What a great start for the summer! What an exciting weekend! The biggest Trout fishing tournament on the Texas coast, (The Baffin Bay Bash), was held this past weekend at Bluff’s Landing Marina & Lodge. There were Eighty-nine teams of hard-core wade fishermen; they competed for a first place prize of $10,000.00. We had a lot of sunshine, lots of people, and lots of fun over the weekend. You won’t find a better place for your family or corporate events. Easter weekend began on Thursday with a lot of activity at the Marina. The weather was great and we’ve seen a lot of people coming out to fish. We had a group of people staying here at Bluff’s Landing for three days of fishing. The first day they went out it was slow due to the full moon. Friday however the fishing really turned on! Box after box of Trout, Reds, and Drum were brought in to the docks.

Calvin Neale brought his sons fishing along with a friend of the family. They fished hard for three days. Their final day of fishing was really good, and they had a great time out on the water!

The weekend starting March 28th is going to be really great! The Baffin Bay Bash tournament will be held here at Bluff’s Landing Marina. This tournament is all about catching huge Speckled Trout. The rules state that two fish can be over 25 inches, but the third fish must be less than 25 inches due to state law. The teams receive extra points if the fish are kept alive. So come on out for a lot of fun, sunshine, and great food at the Laguna Reef Restaurant. These tournaments are always a lot of fun!

Bluffs Landing Weekend Report

Our weekend started with clear skies on Friday morning. By 10:00 AM the parking lot was at maximum capacity. By 12:00 noon the whole marina was full! Guests were arriving for the hotel and people were everywhere. Nine fishing guides were on the water with customers eager to catch a lot of fish. They started returning around 2:00 PM with coolers full of fish. Nice catches of large Redfish, 6 lb to 7 lb trout, drum to 28 inches, flounder up to 18 inches. (see pictures) Onlookers gathered to see what catches were coming in. Lots of ooh’s and ah’s.

Saturday’s weather was better yet at 95 degrees, clear skies and plenty of people. Once again we were at maximum capacity. Jerry B’s Kayaks were holding kayak demos until 4:00 PM on the grassy point. Lots of people came for the free demo ride. Winds shifted to the N/E at 8 miles per hour and fishing was good. The Barometric Pressure will change the feeding pattern for most fish. Still nice boxes of fish were brought in.

Sunday’s weather was overcast with 10 to 20 mile per hour winds from the southeast.

Fall Fishing is Here!

Fall fishing is here which can change the feeding habits of fish, as well as the full moon.

As water temperatures drop, smaller fish such as perch, minnows, finger mullet as well as hard-headed catfish leave the area in search of deeper water to survive the cold temperatures.

Their scales aren't big enough to protect them from cold conditions.

The Land Cut will be hot and heavy as bait leaves the area, the fish follow.

Redfish, Drum, Trout and Flounder will be the target for most fishermen this fall.

Fishing has been somewhat slow over the past days, except for some large redfish.

Tides are the main cause of this.

Oversized Redfish are being caught in the Upper Laguna Madre.

The best results are being found in 5-6 feet of water, slow drifting toward the shore!

Speckled trout are plentiful in the 16-20 inch range.

Fall is one of the best times of the year to fish - as the temperatures fall the fish start to get frisky!

Cooler days = Abundant Redfish

Well the cooler days of fall are coming upon us. As conditions change so do the habits of our fishing industry. Redfish are in abundant supply as they head for the spawning areas.
The jetties with all the rocky areas are the prime target. They migrate every year. Speckle trout are in the Laguna Madre year round. Pig Perch seem to be the bait of choice.
Flounder will be the next target as they head to deep water to spawn. Finger mullet, shrimp, mud minnows, and small jigs will be the choice for flounder.
On a scale of 1-10, fishing is at an 8 count.

Trout Fishing is starting to slow down for the season, while the Redfish are on the move.

Redfish up to 50" are being caught in the upper Laguna Madre.

The first cold front arrived in Texas and the Coastal Bend proceeded to dump a bunch of rain throughout the state. These fronts are right on time and they cause the fish to get really excited when the temperatures change.

Flounder fishing will improve as the temeratures drop.

Hurricane Dean seems to have decided to stay to the south and it bodes well for the fishing in the Laguna Madre.

How's this for a couple of BLM Employees fishing with Capt Warren Hart!

Well, just when we thought the rain was gone for a while.. Somebody invited Tropical Storm Erin to the party. After battening down the hatches at Bluff's Landing on Wednesday - Erin got the wrong directions and proceeded to dump copius amounts of rain on Houston and San Antonio but not much at Bluff's Landing.

This week, several trout and a few reds in the upper Laguna Madre around the Boat Hole to Emmords Hole on piggy's & croakers.

Bigger fish being caught far south in Baffin bay & the land cut. With the rain this week it has been off and on.

Today (Friday) we have seen a dozen or so medium size trout. If the weather holds for the weekend the fishing should be fair. The croaker are really getting big a hard to keep alive, so most anglers are using piggy perch.

Everyone grab your hats and sunscreen!

Today was a scorcher with the wind East/SE at10-11 mph and with a heat index of 101.

Everyone came back from their trips with a great sigh of relief after entering the cool air conditioned Bait and Tackle Shop at Bluff's Landing and headed straight to the cooler for an ice-cold beverage.

Fishing has been excellent for trout and redfish this week at Port Mansfield, the Land Cut, and Baffin Bay, using croaker and piggies.

The fish seem to be moving slowly north and the guides don’t have to travel as far south for fish.

They are also finding trout and reds in the Upper Laguna Madre and catching Kingfish, Ling, Dolphin, and Snapper in the Gulf.

The customers are all coming back from their trips with big smiles on their faces as they go to the cleaning table to have their fish cleaned, bagged and ready to take home.

Trout are still being caught in Baffin Bay, and at the South end of the Land Cut and at Port Mansfield.

Croaker and piggy perch are still the bait of choice.

CORPUS CHRISTI: Trout and redfish are fair around the causeway and on the reefs in Nueces Bay on live shrimp. Trout are fair to good on topwaters and live shrimp around Pelican Island.

BAFFIN BAY: Trout, redfish and black drum are fair to good at the Land Cut on live shrimp under a popping cork. Redfish are fair on shrimp in Emmords Hole. Trout and redfish are fair to good around the rocks on live shrimp and croakers.
